Recipient Org: Description Members attend informal, friendly and structured 2 hour fortnightly meetings. The members are carers, vulnerable people, lonely and depressed people, those with mental health issues and who are often isolated in society. The Group welcomes adult members of all ages, all faiths or none and all persuasions, all races and all nationalities and is non-political. Refreshments are provided. It is a secure and safe environment where information is provided on benefits, health issues, education, training and other helpful and interesting issues. Local events of a social and informative nature are discussed. Speakers give presentations on a variety of subjects a small example: the Older Persons Strategy, flower arranging, Portugal, Vietnam, New Zealand, local history, Advocacy for Older People, music, dancing and singing, Emergency services, health advice and optional health checks, Trefoil and Guiding, memories of a local reporter. Some meetings are held in the community for example; visits to: the local Mosque; the Salvation Army Training Centre, Garden Centre, food demonstration at a local supermarket. Members also enjoy games and quiz days. During the meetings members are invited to discuss anything they would like to share with other members. There is a book exchange and sometimes people bring things to the group to auction for the group. With funding we have been able to provide visits to the theatre, boat trips, and other outings; Christmas lunch and Easter breakfast. The group is welcome to all, prevents isolation and loneliness and gives support and friendship.
