Recipient Org: Description St Pauls Advice Centre is there for people when they have nowhere else to turn, when they most need someone to listen; we help individuals and families at critical points in their lives to guide them to make positive choices, and lasting changes through free legal advice services. Set up in 1972 in Bristol, the centre was established in response to the overwhelming need of the local population for free advice and support in many areas affecting their lives. Becoming a charity in 1978, our work has been governed by our charitable aim of relieving poverty and distress by providing free professional advice to people disadvantaged by economic and political forces beyond their control. Since 2010 we have handled 16,333 enquiries and helped people deal with £6.1m worth of debt. We strive to support our community and have adapted our services to suit the needs of our beneficiaries, recognising that people need advice in other locations and in different languages, we now deliver drop-in sessions out in the community, across Bristol offering advice in Somali, Urdu and Punjabi.
