Recipient Org: Description | The overall aim of our organisation is to provide vital practical and emotional support to people with sight loss living in North Somerset. Our main objectives are to enable social inclusion and promote independence. We do this by providing a unique service in our County offering statutory and voluntary services from one source. Our voluntary work is paramount to bringing together disadvantaged visually impaired people who are in need with community volunteers who want to help make a difference. Our essential volunteer led activities support visually impaired people in many ways including: early intervention for timely support to promote independence, social clubs to run inclusive social and sports activities and IT training with assisted technology to enable them to participate in the digital revolution to keep connected with family, friends and their community. We also offer home visiting for friendship to help reduce isolation, sighted guides to ease access to activities and services, benefit form filling to help reduce poverty and professional counselling to help visually impaired people be more able to face issues of sight loss. Our exceptional community volunteer service helps us to meet our objectives in supporting visually impaired people to help reduce poverty, support pathways to employment, increase confidence and independence and promote good health and well being. Our organisation also offers good quality volunteer opportunities under the management of our community volunteer co-ordinator. We aim to remove barriers to volunteering, create opportunities for local people to care for people with sight loss and celebrate the contribution volunteers make. Volunteers are recruited, trained and supported in their roles and recognized for their valuable achievements. Our team of volunteers provide a crucial lifeline to vulnerable, disadvantaged visually impaired people. |
