Recipient Org: Description | FoodCycle tackles social isolation and food poverty in Bristol. We provide delicious and nutritious three course meals every Saturday and once a month on a Wednesday in Barton Hill. People from all walks of life attend FoodCycle but most of our guests are either elderly, disabled, or from low income households – groups that are at most risk of becoming socially isolated and affected by food poverty. Our meals are organised and cooked by local volunteers and are made from surplus food that would otherwise have been wasted. Our volunteers also host guests, ensuring that new guests are introduced to other people and that everyone feels welcome. FoodCycle provides people with a healthy meal and a chance to socialise and make new friends. We build strong, inclusive communities over good food. In 2016, FoodCycle Bristol served 1,145 meals and provided 356 Tupperware boxes for people to take away. This was all possible through the hard work of volunteers who donated 1,338 hours to transform 1,695 kg of food waste into delectable meals for our guests. We are proud that in 2016, FoodCycle Bristol won the Green Community Group award at Bristol’s Green Capital awards. |
