Recipient Org: Description | We run Felix Road Adventure Playground in Easton, Bristol (a Super Output area in the top 10% of deprivation measures in the country). We run free, open access, child-centred play activities six days a week, all year, in a culturally diverse area. We are committed to the Play Principles (Play Wales) and believe that free adventure play is an essential right of all children that benefits their physical, cognitive and social development. “The act of playing can overcome cultural and other boundaries and help children to understand others who they might consider to be different from themselves and for disabled children, who are prone to social isolation, play can be an important way of creating bonds with other children (Dunn and others 2004). Many of our children do not have their own gardens. Felix Road is a safe haven for them with room to exercise and play with great role models in our playworkers, where they can experience nature and meet children of different ages and backgrounds. |
