Recipient Org: Description At OXPIP we help parents and their babies build close and loving relationships from the start of life. For 18 years we have provided intensive therapeutic support to parents and their babies from conception to two years old as well as training and consultation for practitioners and professionals. OXPIP also works with policy makers and the general public to build awareness, support and capacity for parent infant attachment and infant mental health. Our aim is to redress disadvantage and deprivation that adversely affect development at the start of a child's life. A substantial body of neuro scientific evidence supports OXPIP's work, indicating that the origins of many social and mental health problems lie in infancy and childhood, and are strongly influenced by the quality of the parent infant relationship. Children lacking experience of loving relationships and strong attachments in the first two years of life are more likely to struggle to establish secure or happy relationships as they grow. Inconsistent and neglectful or abusive care in infancy is known to impact directly on brain development, affecting the individual's ability to regulate emotions properly. We have worked in Oxfordshire for 18 years and started a small project in Reading two years ago. We work in six Childrens' centres in Oxfordshire (funding sadly ending in December 2016 due to recent cuts). We have had military projects at Dalton, Benson and Brize Norton and are currently funded in Brize Norton. We have an Asian Outreach project in the city centre and a rural outreach project in West Oxfordshire. We also provide training to early years staff and future parent infant therapists.
