Recipient Org: Description | Our aim is to support people with disabilities to take up or return to the activity of cycling in order to maintain both physical and mental well being. Using the facilities of our 'Hub' workshop in Todmorden we can adapt bikes to meet the needs of the disabled rider. This may be a relatively simple adaptation such as adding an electric motor or more complex, for example, by building an electrically assisted trike from scratch. The charity has also built four 'bike trains' which enable an able bodied volunteer on an e-bike to pilot a disabled person on an adapted recumbent bike attached to the rear of the e-bike. The recumbent trailer can be powered by either the disabled person's legs or arms. EMpowered People offers training to both disabled riders and able bodied volunteers to enable them to participate in various events we organise, from two/three day distance rides to local 'social' rides. |
