| Recipient Org: Description | Scouts and cubs help young people, aged 6-25 years old, achieve their full physical, intellectual, social and spiritual potential as individuals, as responsible citizens and as members of their local, national and international communities. The 8th/ 26th Calder Valley Scouts aims to enrich members lives by building their skills and confidence and by helping them become responsible members of our community. We do this by introducing members to activities and experiences e.g. camping and kayaking which they may never otherwise be able to access and by helping them to work for badges on a range of subjects (e.g. IT skills, bike riding) As well as building individual skills the activities we offer also support learning to work as a team in a safe and supportive environment. Many of our activities are outdoors which encourages children and young people to leave computers and phones behind, helps them get more physically active and learn how to be safe outdoors. We have a progressive training structure which allows members to build skills, confidence, leadership abilities and experience and higher qualifications as they gain more experience, in some cases eventually leading to them becoming volunteers with the group |
