Recipient Org: Description Serving residents from Rastrick, Brighouse, Fixby, and Elland since 1913, St John the Divine Church is a long-established and active community space at the heart of Rastrick. We host over 25 regular groups across our main church room and adjacent hall, offering older people, families, and local residents a place to meet, access support, and take part in local events. Alongside worship, our main church space hosts a wide range of low-cost activities, including monthly charity coffee mornings and afternoon teas (40+ retirees attend), Episcopal Area Leadership meetings, Barnabas conferences, and Mothers’ Union events focused on issues such as domestic abuse support (50+ attend monthly). We partner with Brighouse Arts Festival, Rastrick Voices Choir, Halifax Winter Choir, Orchestra of Square Chapel, Halifax and District Organists, Clifton Handbell Ringers, Gledholt Male Voice Choir, and local schools including Woodhouse Primary and Rastrick High. Regular concerts attract audiences of 100+. Our hall supports activities by groups including Focus4Hope, Cubs, Scouts, Rainbows, Brownies, Guides, the Rucksack Club, Brighouse Theatre Productions, Line Dancing, Tai Chi, Calligraphers, Happy Dog Training, and a monthly community lunch, making our building a key site for community support, connection, and local engagement.
