Recipient Org: Description Nest Helping the Homeless began as a Rotary Club of Sowerby Bridge project (Rucksacks4Homeless) in October 2017 to help people in Calderdale who are homeless. Due to its success and increasing demand, Nest Helping the Homeless became an independent charity on 30th September 2024. Nest has two core goals: • Reduce the vulnerability among street homeless individuals by providing rucksacks containing essentials, such as sleeping bags/mats, flasks and warm clothing • Support people transitioning into a home, by providing starter packs including a microwave, kettle, toaster, crockery, cutlery, pans, mugs, bedding, towels etc. Through our partnerships with organisations such as Calderdale Council, Horton Housing, Street Reach, P3, Happy Days and Focus4Hope, we’ve learned that many people moving into a home lack the funds to buy basic necessities. This can negatively impact mental and physical health, and in some cases, lead back to homelessness. Our home starter packs ensure people can make hot meals and drinks and stay connected with their support network from day one. We are dedicated to supporting Calderdale’s most vulnerable residents – helping them meet their immediate needs while also guiding them toward lasting independence.
