Recipient Org: Description Bridge2 is a charity focused on serving the asylum seeker, refugees, and the local community throughout the central Liverpool area. Since 2015 Bridge2 has been supporting people who are escaping persecution and war zones; assisting them as they transition into a purpose-filled life in the UK. We offer a variety of services such as English classes and cultural classes, skills workshops and art workshops, support groups, and practical support. n 2015, our organization started off as a group of qualified English teachers who were challenged by the realities of the refugee crisis and the needs of the asylum-seeking community in the UK. After a few weeks of offering unofficial English classes in our friend’s house, the classes spread into other rooms in the house and then to a café in the city center. As we grew in our understanding and relationship with the asylum seeker community, we started providing clothes and basic toiletries through donations, and our project expanded to include employability and art workshops. We now have 4 directors and a team of volunteers and paid staff, including four people with lived experience of being asylum seekers and refugees in the UK. As an organization we are currently running three projects: Creative Arts/ Art Therapy, Community Care & Wellbeing Support, and a Community Garden. These projects have grown organically out of our roots seeking to make a difference in people’s lives and provide services where it was most needed. Our impact has continued to grow over the past six years to expand to more than 1000 refugees. These services have grown in part out of the needs we have witnessed but also out of the desires expressed by members of the community themselves. We serve as a signpost to other vital services including English language courses, therapy, and medical assistance.
