Recipient Org: Description | Babel’s purpose is to advance the arts and culture, with a focus on the area of theatre, dance and/or interdisciplinary/multidisciplinary contemporary performance. Activities take place in the theatre sector, including but not limited to producing; physical theatre, new writing or other contemporary performance. We provide training and/or skills development opportunities for young people (16-25) and/or marginalised groups, communities. Our work is explicitly for public benefit of communities with a focus on supporting young people in the geographical areas of Lambeth, focussing on the Brixton area (SE9/SE2 postal codes) and/or East London; Tower Hamlets and Hackney (E15, E1, E11 postal codes). Furthermore, we exist to enhance provisions to support improved mental and physical wellbeing, reduce isolation and improve community cohesion through opportunities for skills development, training, apprenticeship and/or other learning via models of creative engagement. We are a value-led organisation which aims to establish brave spaces for participants to communicate openly and address the social issues which are relevant to their community, through a creative environment which is build on accessibility, inclusivity, diversity and equity; and fosters peer-inspiration as a central pillar” We aim to provide opportunities for young people to access creative spaces; to develop personal skills which have transferable value to ensuring that young people from marginalised communities have equal access to and opportunities for development. We believe that artistic and creative experiences have the power to transform, influence and allow people to develop their skills. Culture is a space for all and we exist to promote marginalised voices and utilise creative expression, experience, experimentation and education to respond to the issues that matter and exist in our lives. |
