Recipient Org: Description Big Help Project is a multi-award-winning national charity that was established in 2011 with the express purpose of eradicating the social injustice that is poverty, whatever form it may take. Our objectives are to feed the hungry, free people from the burden of unmanageable personal debt, help people into affordable housing and to assist people on to a better future. Over the past ten years we have formed a social impact eco-system, providing on the ground wrap-around services to make sure nobody is left in crisis (supporting 100,000+ people a year). We tackle not only the effects of poverty but its underlying root causes, ensuring we are able to empower service users with real, effective life change. Every day of the week, Big Help Project is making a difference and helping people to break down barriers to a healthy life, ending the cyclical nature of their circumstances. We cannot tell people what they need or want so our interventions are person centred, focussing on the needs of the individual, with support packages being co-produced with the service user and the community. These ambitions are achieved by means of our accredited wrap around ancillary support services. Our Money Advice and Welfare Advocacy Teams (Financial Conduct Authority: 626075, Community Money Advice: 282) get money (£14.14 million) back into client’s pockets by alleviating debt, offering budgeting support, calculating benefits and advocating at welfare tribunals. In addition to supporting those at risk of homelessness, Big Help Homes (Action for Warm Homes: F4895) has dedicated strands offering supported housing (4000+ units) to vulnerable groups such as those fleeing domestic violence through our Safe Havens programme and those re-integrating back into society after custodial sentences through our Fresh Start programme. Big Help Food as Knowsley Foodbank delivers Knowsley Metropolitan Borough Council’s emergency food programme, feeding over 100,000 people in need each year without judgement or reservation. To support the journey of clients, Big Help Wellbeing enfranchises BACP qualified psychotherapists to deliver state of the art counselling in tandem with our wellbeing centre Yoga Nation which offers holistic therapy and community fitness initiatives. Our employability team supports service users back into work, education or training, breaking down barriers to access and offering a complete support package with 1-1 mock interviews, motivational training, interview attire and job searching getting 120 people into work last year. Big Help Trading, runs Community Shops offering discounted access to home goods and discretionary grants of white goods as well as provision of ethical financing options. Our community activities promote social cohesion and civic pride, such examples include – Windrush Commemorations, Golf Days, Abseils, Fire-walks, Park Parties and our well-loved Strictly Competitions. Recently we have ramped up our Ukrainian Support Group and run Warm Hubs across the LCR every day a week supporting the most vulnerable in our society during its time of unprecedented need which we proudly meet.
