Recipient Org: Description The Bluecoat is Liverpool’s contemporary art centre. Our Grade I listed building, the oldest in the city centre, has been a consistent feature in Liverpool’s evolution since its founding in 1717. The heritage of our eighteenth-century building is central to our mission, but the Bluecoat is more than a physical entity: it is a working community and a creative playground, where creativity and community flows in and out, bringing people together and enriching lives. Today, we are a leading contemporary arts centre and home for creative potential. Described as ‘avant-garde meets village hall’, we present a year-round exhibition programme, develop diverse artists and deliver targeted arts activities for communities facing disadvantage. Our purpose is to create new, more-meaningful ways to experience creativity, which we achieve through our core objectives: Inspire curiosity. Bluecoat is a supportive space in which to unearth new ideas. Here, you can make, debate and participate in new and unexpected ways. We bring art into life – for artists and everyone; Be purposefully inclusive. We see the potential of many voices under one roof. Bluecoat is a platform for artists and audiences from underrepresented backgrounds; Break new ground. As the UK’s first arts centre, we continue a history of radical thought and creative reinvention. An independent arts centre that continues to nurture artistic talent and break new ground. Part of Liverpool’s past, key to its future; Unlock the creative process. We bring people into the heart of the creative process, creating new opportunities for individuals and communities to interact with artists as they work. A place not just to look at but to engage with art.
