Recipient Org: Description We are a comprehensive rural community association. The central hub of our population is at the village of Scotch Street (Pop 1200). The large rural area surrounding this village has a substantial number in the over 60 age group. Our geographical designated area is within a 5 mile radius of Scotch Street but we support many from outside this area as we are only 2.5 miles from Portadown and 8 from Armagh. Our main objectives are to develop: social cohesion, tackle the problem of social isolation, and have meaningful communications with our community and to help develop programmes for the physical and mental health of our community. We also have the objective of developing good relations across all sections of our community. We also have heritage, art and drama projects. Our Older people's group, Richmount Elders, has a membership of just over 150. Some 55 people attend the weekly Thursday session for older people from 10.00 to 15.30. We prepare a traditional lunch on site. We have entertainment, activities/lectures to assist in healthy active aging. We are actively involved in cross community/cultural projects as we have a substantial East European population. We have just completed a Tier 2 community Pharmacy project with our older people and we are currently engaged in an Arts & Older People's project. We are still active on "Our Listen to Us " project which was funded via the CFNI's Older People's Fund We have a Richmount Elders sub group which articulates the views of the older people's group and helps organise the activity programme. . We have some 18 men in the Richmount Elders group. The Association communicates with its community via the Social Media through its own Facebook page, website and its community magazine: Richmount News. Most of the members of the Richmount Elders come from the designated area but other comes from local villages and Portadown as some were brought up in the area and wish to maintain the bond with friends and old neighbours.Others simply like what is on offer. We have our own oil buying club supported by the Housing Executive. This was instigated to help reduce fuel costs for many of our older residents who live in traditional farm dwellings which are under occupied and difficult to heat. We were the first to avail of this scheme. We also work closely with Ballyoran Seniors on the Garvaghy Road, Portadown and give support to this low capacity group. Multiple winners of the local Council's Best Community Group, Older People's Group & Good Relations awards. Winner of all Island Pride of Place award and the Queen's Award for Volunteer Service 2019 In terms of the current crisis we are engaged in the Council's Food Parcel scheme and Community Pharmacy Support and an advice service. We are now producing scrubs etc . Originally for the NHS facilities but now to meet the needs of local nursing homes and individuals who need facemasks and visors.
