Recipient Org: Description Group category: We are a community Group that is a Company Ltd by guarantee comprised of a wide range of community representatives from: The Ballybeen Women’s Centre, The Ballybeen Men’s Motivational Group, Dungoyne FC, Dundonald FC, 43rd old Boys FC (Dundonald), the Ballyoran Community Arts Group, the Ballyoran dance & social club, Dundonald Methodist Church, the Salvation Army, Christchurch, St Marys Church Ballybeen, the Pride of Ballybeen Flute band and BAGIT. We also have on our associate membership, key stakeholders from the following statutory organisations and providers: the PSNI, Lisburn & Castlereagh Council Community Support Services, Belfast Health & Social Care Trust, Brooklands Youth Club, Dundonald High School & Brooklands Primary School. The area we cover, Ballybeen, comprises three super output areas: Carrowreagh 2, Enler and Graham’s Bridge. Carrowreagh takes in the Ballyoran area of Ballybeen but also includes a number of new and private housing developments. The Enler ward covers the large central section of the estate and is characterised by a 1960s estate layout. Graham’s Bridge covers the south western area of Ballybeen and includes a more affluent private housing area along Grahamsbridge Road. The 2011 Census records a total population across the three super output areas of 7,259 people (3,205 households), equivalent to 10.79% of the population of the former Castlereagh Local Government District, which under RPA has been subject to a redrawing of boundaries that now places Ballybeen at the farthest edges of the new Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council. It was designated by the DSD as an ‘area at risk’ in 2007. Main activities: We have dedicated sub-groups covering the following areas of action: A) Youth, Education and employment, B) Sport, Health & Wellbeing, C) Culture & Identity, D) Community Development, Engagement & Environment. The BIG development plan (June 2013) has us both lobbying for and engaged in a range of activities and projects including: the redevelopment of Ballybeen Square, development of a proposal of a 3g pitch and facilities at Brookland fields (passed by full Council on 28th June and awaiting business planning), communications, community involvement, cohesion & community spirit. We were responsible, in partnership with the Council, for delivery of a 1.8m sports hub for the Ballybeen area under shared spaces programme in November this year.
