Recipient Org: Description | WPCA is a community organisation that was set up in 2002 to support and meet the needs of local residents in a particularly low income area of east Belfast. We deal with some very vulnerable people and our aim is to provide services that improve the lives of those we work with. We run a variety of projects in our area that have a real heart to make positive change in a deprived community such as a homework club to provide essential academic support to primary school children, a CAP Debt Centre and Job Club, a Food Store, a Family Support project, a kids healthy hearts fitness programme that has benefitted 6500 pupils to date, a variety of kids and youth programmes, work with young adults and NEETs, and a variety of outreach, lifestyle and self-esteem programmes for adults which are adapted and changed as necessary to continue to meet the needs of local people. We connect with several hundred local people each week impacted by sectarianism, social deprivation, educational underachievement, and low employment opportunities. |
