Recipient Org: Description Our organisation was formed in 2014 and we then put together a Mummers group to act as a fundraising arm for our organisation and this was an excellent way of recruiting volunteers form our locality and creating awareness of our existence. Our Mummers group is still very much part of our organisation and perform each year at Senior Citizens dances and care homes in the run up to Christmas. Our Chairperson is well known locally for his interest in local history and we organise a monthly ‘History Lecture’ series which runs from September to April each year. This project is in association with Ballinamallard Historical Society and is a cross community venture, now in it’s third year. We have another ongoing project called ‘Live Here Know Here’ where throughout the Summer months we take to the laneways and fields of our Parish with a group of up to 50 participants. This is excellent for social interaction, it is also very educational as we examine the Heritage sites of our locality of which there are 24 in total spread out over 61 Townlands and the exercise for both body and mind is immeasurable. In addition to this we provide weekly singing classes throughout the Winter months and music classes also where we prepare the students for London College of music examinations. We also organise seasonal gardening courses and these are preparing our local people for our new outdoor space project which will entail vegetable, flower and herb growing. We also oragnise an Annual trip for our Volunteers and participants to places such as: Museum of Country life, Lisburn Museum, and Glenveigh Castle to name a few. Each year we hold a commemoration event on the first weekend in August to celebrate the people of renown who lived and worked here. Each year we pick a different person or place, like Kilskeery old cross community Cemetary with 195 headstones one of which dates back to 1626 and it holds the graves of the O'Neill clan of Trillick/Tyrone and Francis Crawford who died at the Battle of the Somme. Each year we publish a book detailing our selected project. Our cross community endeavours with Ballinamallard Historical Society has added a new dimension to our group's activities. It has attracted other organisations such as Bryson Intercultural to provide courses in our Centre on Conflict Management and they recently funded a very successful Ulster Scot's night in our premises. We are now in the initial stages of preparing to host a course alongside the Corrymeela Centre for peace and reconciliation on the decade of Centenaries, which will draw participants from both the Unionist and Nationalist communities in our locality. We also have our own premises on 25 year lease from the local Council and this includes a downstairs space for a disabled access toilet and 650 sq meters of ground adjacent to our premises, where we plan to have a polytunnel and sensory garden created with autistic children in mind being both tranquil, interactive and based on information received from parents.
