Recipient Org: Description Strathfoyle Women's Activity Group aims to relieve poverty, to advance educational opportunities and to provide better health and welfare through the provision of facilities and activities for women, families, lone parents and pre-school children of Strathfoyle and Maydown. We are a trusted space with a significant reach, in a disadvantaged, isolated, rural community, providing support and meeting the needs of the community. Our group offers individuals to make brighter futures for themselves and their children, where women can access accredited, recreational and social programmes which can lead to further education, training or employment, and help break the cycle of poverty and underachievement. The group works closely with Health and Social Services and other professional groupings to support the needs of the vulnerable individuals and families in the area. Our centre is located in the heart of the community and provides a vital service, as it is the only family support/early intervention childcare facility within a five mile radius. Our centre offers a warm, friendly non threatening environment to all our centre users. We have a track record of addressing the enhancement of children's development and learning, addressing child poverty and social confidence, improving physical and mental health and social integration. Our centre provides a lifeline for many women who are marginalised in our community, and our work fills a gap left by cuts in the statutory services. Our childcare provision which has been paramount to our workings as a centre, and it runs in conjunction with all our daytime classes, enabling parents/carers to participate in the various courses/programmes, knowing their child is being well cared for, in a safe, supported, stimulated and happy environment. Our creche is highly recommended by the Western Health and Social Care Trust, and is uniquely placed to deliver services to children most affected by deprivation. Our childcare provision is through early intervention, and the building and nurturing of resilience, by supporting and positively engaging with families and their young children, many who are at risk of poor outcomes. We pursue strongly evidenced practice which promotes positive health and well-being in a warm, welcoming and homely environment. We also offer a Drop-in Respite Care creche, for children with additional needs or developmental delays, children of parents with additional needs or struggling parents, and children on the'at risk' register. Our Parent and Child Together programme includes various activities which promote laughter and fun and helps strengthen the bonds between parent and child. As a centre we are inter generational, offering programmes/services to women over 55 years old called the Positive Ageing Programme. This programme offers women opportunities to break through isolation issues that many experiences, it examines the processes in ageing and teaches how to look after their health, mobility, maintain a positive mental attitude and promotes social interaction. Our centre is the only facility that supports older people in the area, as the closest in the Waterside is five miles away. We offer On to One Support services in Counselling, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Parenting Support and Personal Development, and these 'talking therapies' have made an immense difference for those who have participated as their anonymous testimonials reflect.
