Recipient Org: Description Support 2gether operates at a grassroots level providing an invaluable early intervention service to vulnerable and socially isolated women experiencing or at risk of experiencing Ante-Natal Depression (AND) and/or Post-Natal Depression (PND). Support 2gether delivers service provision throughout the province focusing on the rural areas of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council and the Clogher Valley area and our research has shown that without our intervention there would be no support at all for the mothers and families who need it most. Our charity provides one to one counselling, mental health awareness programs, group support meetings, self-development workshops, holistic therapies, residential respite, specific father's support groups, mental health coaching along with the core work of our charity which is theory-based training and raising mental health awareness which is vitally necessary to help support women at risk, the fathers, their unborn babies, their newborns, their other children and their families. Support 2gether is driven by the need to break down the social stigma and educate our community on the indicators and symptoms of AND/PND so that early intervention/secondary prevention, support and signposting on to professional services in high risk cases can be applied ensuring the reduction of the impact of this illness. The work of Support 2gether is completely unique to Northern Ireland growing organically as a direct response to mothers and their families in the community, this person centred and person- led work educates and empowers the mothers to find their voice, overcome stigma and stand up to the bully that is AND/PND ultimately normalising the illness. The need for our services has been demonstrated statistically as half of all cases of Perinatal Mental Health and anxiety go undetected, unfortunately many of those who are recognisably detected fail to receive evidence-based forms of treatment. Research from Public Health Agency further indicates that there is on average 25,000 birth deliveries each year in NI. Of this figure 10 - 20% women suffer from AND; 1 in 10 women suffer from PND; 1 in 1000 women suffer from puerperal psychosis and shockingly 1 in 25 fathers are affected. Suicide is now recognised as the leading cause of death in new mothers. Living in a rural area of NI with a severe lack of service provision we believe that as a charity we are best placed to respond to those suffering as a result of early stages of AND/PND. We are meeting the need by providing quality assured techniques (we utilise two Clinical Psychiatrists who are actively involved in the quality assurance & enhancement of all our work and programs). In addition, we provide information, opportunities and support to both parents, their families and ultimately the wider communities, as our team all have lived experiences with AND and/or PND and aspire to be and are actively 'change-makers'. We have designed theory-based and evidence-based bespoke and unique programmes such as the Antenatal 12 hr programme 'Bumps 2gether', the 12 hr 'Understand ITS Normal (PND) Programme and the 3 hr 'The Tale of PND' workshop. We utilise technology and social media to reach out to inform the families about our upcoming events and supports, but ultimately it's the powerful word of mouth that has lead to the huge success in supporting families coping with AND and PND. While we stand firm and recognise that our core values are around face-to-face relational support in person with the mothers and families, we are happy to extend all our passion and knowledge utilising technology as a great tool in the interim hosting live video meetingsuntil all regular face-to-face support, counselling and programs can resume after Covid-19 has passed. This funding will allow further records and analysis to be completed around the needs of mothers experiencing AND and/or PND during the epic Covid-19 pandemic..., which we can use to inform future training delivery needs based on the identified and changing modern time needs of the mothers and families. We can also provide a written quantitative and qualitative report to the Public Health Agency or any statutory body as required to assist in their future development of community work and funding allocation, where we Support2gether can actively assist and collaborate with in order to meet the community needs.
