Recipient Org: Description Aisling Centre is dedicated to the promotion of good mental health and emotional well-being. Aisling is an Irish word meaning dream or vision. The dream of the founding members was to provide a safe place at the heart of the community where people can find support at difficult times in their lives Vision - Positive Mental Health and Emotional Well-Being for All Mission- To provide opportunities for hope, healing and growth in a welcoming and supportive environment Principles/Values – Confidential, Respectful, Empathic, Supportive, Non-judgemental and Inclusive of All. Working collaboratively with others to achieve shared objectives. Sensitivity to Current & Emerging Needs Aims & Objectives:- 1 To promote positive mental health and emotional well-being for adults, young people and children in Co Fermanagh and the surrounding area through the provision of an accessible and professional counselling, psychotherapy and play therapy service 1.1 Ensure that resources are in place to continue to support the ongoing sustainability of the core service 1.2 Ensure that the Centre’s clinical staffing structure is effective 1.3 Ensure that the Centre is working to the highest standards of clinical practice 1.4 Identify opportunities for collaborative work in partnership/alliance with other organisations 2 To provide a range of additional activities that will enhance and complement the counselling and psychotherapy work of the Centre and give additional value to clients 2.1 To provide and to further develop a hub from which a range of statutory and other services can be accessed that will support the local community in the maintenance of positive mental health, personal growth and wellbeing 2.2 Maintain a welcoming and supportive environment for all people using the Centre 2.3 Ensure that the work of the Aisling Centre responds to identified need in our community 2.4 Ensure that we continue to actively reach out to the community so that all who could benefit from the work of the Centre can access the services 3 To ensure that the Aisling Centre is an effective, accountable, transparent organisation that meets the requirements of all stakeholders 3.1 Ensure organisational Governance and Accountability is consistent with best practice 3.2 Ensure that the Centre’s Administrative and Support Staffing structure is effective 3.3 On-going monitoring and development of the systems of the Centre to make them as effective as possible 3.4 Promote the work of the Centre to maximum effect 3.5 Maintain a strong fundraising effort to support the work of the Centre The core work of the Centre is the provision of a free, confidential and professional counselling and psychotherapy service. On average the Centre offer’s 100 session of counselling every week. People come to the Centre at times of distress, often with a complex range of presenting issues eg:- bereavement/loss, relationship issues, abuse, domestic violence, trauma, anxiety, depression, panic attacks, stress, addiction, self-harm, suicidal ideation etc In addition to the general counselling/psychotherapy service the Centre also offer’s a dedicated service for:- - Survivors of Childhood Abuse, - Victims/Survivors of the Troubles, - Children Coping with Loss through bereavement or family breakdown (play therapy). On average Aisling Centre receives 80 referrals for counselling every month. Approximately 70% of referrals are from GP’s or other health professionals. The remaining 30% are self-referrals. Counselling services are available from Aisling Centre or on an outreach basis in collaboration with local GP’s, health centres and primary schools. In the current health pandemic situation we are offering telephone/e-counselling. In support of this work Aisling Centre offers a range of well-being and life learning services including Support Groups, Mindfulness Meditation, Complimentary Therapies and Psycho-Educational/ Psycho-Social Workshops and Training. These are temporarily suspended but we are currently looking at how we might offer some of these supports on-line. The Centre also acts as a hub for a range of statutory and C&V sectors groups and services including WH&SCT Primary Care Team, AA, Aware, Sure Start, Zest, support groups for people bereaved by suicide, carers, Syrian refugees etc as well as a range of classes and workshops and a coffee shop. This network of statutory and voluntary agencies enables services to complement each other and allows for ease of referral and/or access to additional supports. It also ensures a wide range of supports are easily accessible to vulnerable people living in the area. When open, average footfall in the Centre is 500 people per week. The Aisling Centre is an organisational member of the BACP (British Association of Counselling & Psychotherapy) and works to their ethical framework. The Centre also adheres to PHA Quality Standards for Services Promoting Mental and Emotional Wellbeing and Suicide Prevention
