Recipient Org: Description We are a cross community early years provider with a focus on heuristic play based activities and providing opportunities and choice for all children. We have a community development and social inclusion approach and offer provision for children and families regardless of religions, ethnicity, ability or social background. The preschool has been in operation in the Tempo community for over 30 years and continues to meet the needs of the community as evidenced by the increasing demand for places each year. We are a registered charity who are managed by a constituted committee of volunteer parents and supported by the local community. We provide learning opportunities for all children age 3-4 to develop their educational, social, emotional well-being with a vision and values of encouraging strong, competent children who are visible in their communities, eager and able to learn and respectful of difference. We strive to provide a fully inclusive environment with all staff trained in Makaton and PECS communication systems and this is used on a daily basis for all children regardless of their communication needs. The playgroup currently supports 3 children with complex medical needs, life limiting conditions, global developmental delays and a further 7 children presenting with significant additional needs including learning needs, ASD, speech and language difficulties and social, emotional and behavioural needs. Feedback from parents of children with disabilities who have attended the playgroup have told us the playgroup had offered them opportunities for their child to remain within their local community in familiar surroundings to develop skills alongside their peers and neighbours and one parent described the inclusion and opportunities for social and skill development at the playgroup as their child's and parents last opportunity for remaining within their community with local families before being transported daily 20 miles trip to the nearest specialist education provider. Such feedback makes us more determined to ensure we continue to offer specialist SEN provision within i=our local community. We believe in investing in our local community, partnership, inclusion and diversity by providing a co-ordinated, integrated and holistic approach to learning and development and parental/grandparental/carer involvement. Throughout the year, we hold regular parent information evenings on a range of topics such as mental health, physical health, child development, early years curriculum and social and community involvement as well as advice , signposting and community training opportunities. Due to COVID19 we have had to change the way we deliver our early years programme to focus mostly on distance learning through use of resources packs and online projects as well as developing online and telephone support/signposting for our parents.
