| Recipient Org: Description | Mae Murray Foundation isa membership-led organisation which aims to improve quality of life for individuals and entire families who may be otherwise excluded as a result of disability, age, medical condition or caring role. We formed to help address the unmet need of those who are socially isolated, to create more opportunities to make friends, take part, have fun and ultimately to feel part of their local community. In 2020 achievements and services on offer include: Creating NI’s first inclusive beach now a model of best practice; 3 inclusive beaches in Northern Ireland with free equipment that could benefit 50,000 people in Northern Ireland. Introducing NI’s first and only wheelchair surfboard; Creating Inclusive Community Play Hubs offering free hire of specialised equipment; a ‘Teenage Hub’ offering a chill out zone to young people with disabilities aged 12-20 to direct their own activities and be supported to have fun and make friends; Developing a successful project for teenagers with complex physical and communicative disabilities through social outings, adventurous activities and overnights away from home; A Family Project providing vital support, resources and network that families with young children need to enjoy family days out; A project for young adults aged 20-35 to make friends, be independent and learn new skills; and The introduction of the first Early Years Powered Mobility Loan Scheme in Northern Ireland – young children are learning spatial awareness, essential skills and easing frustration. |
