| Recipient Org: Description | The association provides a free, private and confidential service for the benefit of the Inhabitants of the Ardoyne Area and district area of Belfast and its environs; our main areas of work are around Social and Private Housing, Social Security Benefits including, Disability& Carers, Housing Benefit, Employment and Support Allowance, Income Support, JSA, Social Fund, Pensions, Pension Credit and now Universal Credit, as online benefit for households. We also provide information and advice on Consumer issues, Employment, Health, and Debt and have an excellent referral system. Over 3000 people have passed through our offices in the last year, with 1653 interviewed, 493 collected forms, 648 forms completed, 16 home visits and income generated for these people in 2019 in the sum of £1.9million, by way of entitlement to benefits. We have had 85 presentations sessions on Universal Credit Awareness and delivered a number of Financial Capablity programmes to low income families living in the area. In the area of housing, environmental and community safety we have reclaimed wasteland for gardens, ran campaigns against litter dumping, graffiti, dog fouling. We were responsible for turning alley ways and entries from rubbish pits into Entry Oasis with different coloured back doors, stencils of fairies and butterflies, hanging basket etc the walk ways our now safe and secure places with our Alleygate Scheme, which reduced anti-social behaviour and increased the security of over 1697 homes. Our re-imaging murals projects 7 in total, involved 157 community meetings, moving people mind sets from political/paramilitary to cultural to promote community harmony through inter-generational and cross community activities and so leading to healthier living. We have instigated an education for all policy within the community by setting up and running an educational task group for BT14, our community has created a Vision for the Future of Education within our community, we have engaged with community, school, church and ministers regarding this process. A main piece of work for us is addressing food poverty and through our North Belfast Advice Partnership we have a shared food bank now operating for 7 years providing households with emergency food and gas/electric. Last year we held our annual Christmas appeal and provide 750 families with hampers and toys. During this period there has been an increase demand on our Advice Team and Food Bank. In 2020 COVID19 hit and very quickly we implemented a Community Action Response Plan along side our partners across North Belfast and through the financial assistance of CFNI, BCC, DfC, NIHE, HA's and many more we have successfully delivered an amazing and varied action plan. From our Advisor's managing clients through the furlough scheme, self employed scheme those who lost their jobs through the benefits system Universal Credit, Contribution Based ESA or JSA, supporting thousands through our Food Bank and the many programmes delivered to address isolation and loneliness during this last 16 weeks. The Association has increased its St Representative base by an additional 50 plus members and volunteers. So moving forward we want to harness that great work and develop our St Reps and the programme delivery on on the ground. Having a community motivator to drive this forward will be the key to its success. |
