| Recipient Org: Description | An Tobar CIC is a neutral venue without affiliation to politics or religion. A not-for-profit social enterprise, we provide nature-based interventions and health and wellbeing programmes for people of all ages and abilities within the South Armagh rural border and NMDD Council area. We also welcome visitors and groups from all over Ireland. We are fortunate to have extensive horticultural facilities, established gardens, a working farm and woodland, as well as an on-site tearoom which has become a social hub for all ages in the local community. Services include social & therapeutic horticulture, ecotherapy and social farming. We work with children from 16 local schools. An Tobar means ‘The Well’ or ‘Well-spring’ and takes its name from a well on the farm, which in years gone by was considered a ‘healing well’. Our vision: Growing Together in A Place of Healing. Ag fas le cheile i dtearmann leighis. Our mission: To create an inclusive, safe sanctuary for healing our community. We offer therapeutic horticulture and social farming and social and educational programmes to individuals and groups. An Tobar is a place of belonging where we can nurture our health and wellbeing and heal and grow together as a community. We aim to help improve the health and well-being of our community, for people to feel connected, share their stories and build communities together. We believe that every individual should be treated with respect and should feel included and have opportunities for personal development and help to realise their full potential. An Tobar aims to address high levels of mental health/wellbeing issues prevalent in our rural community and combat social isolation/loneliness. Our participants are all ages with emphasis on U18s, 18-25, O65s, learning disability and carers. We offer opportunities for active participation in community activities in our community cafe and community gardens, with social/cultural events, gardening classes, mindfulness and other outdoor nature-based experiences. Since the onset of the coronavirus pandemic we have been working in partnership with other community groups in South Armagh to coordinate a collective response to the crisis as a community. We have used our facilities, space and expertise, availing of every inch of growing space, producing fresh vegetables, salads and fruit that are distributed (free of charge) to vulnerable people in our community, particularly those who live alone or are caring for a dependant or who were in self-isolation/social distancing. With funding from Community Foundation NI Emergency Funds, Charities Aid Fund and Food for Life Get Togethers we have cooked and delivered healthy meals to 60 beneficiaries every week to date since early April. Delivering this service kept communication lines open with vulnerable people during this time , providing them with a point of contact and means to access other practical help such as delivery of prescriptions, groceries and vital supplies. |
