| Recipient Org: Description | Greysteel Community Enterprise is a local community group set up in the rural and isolated village of Gresyteel to help regenerate the area following the impact of the troubles, Greysteel witnessed witnesses one of the worst atrocities of the Troubles ,were in 1993 8 people lost there lives in the Rising Sun Bar attack. Rather than succumb to despair and anger people from Greysteel wanted to ensure that something positive came from the tragedy and this is the reason our organisation was formed . Health and social well being is central to our work, our community gym and playing fields offer people the opportunity to partake in physical activity throughout the year. We run community based activities to target the marginalised people in our community such as young people, women and older people. We run 3 different youth clubs juniors, intermediates and seniors , this is from age 7 to 18 both male and female. We also run projects through the year to tackle social issues such as good relations drugs and alcohol awareness etc. Further to this we run summer scheme and seasonal projects for youth. Our youth club runs 2 nights per week 48 weeks of the year. We also offer classes for women who are socially isolated, we tailor these classes around school and family life to ensure we can best meet there needs. We run craft and fitness classes to help with their physical and mental health and well being and also run educational classes that help them gain new skills etc. We also cater for old people in our community by running craft classes , doing inter generational projects with out youth and by providing home security equipment to those who are vulnerable. Our board is made up of local members of our community and business people |
