COVID19 -Tonic is working to meet the unmet need of housing with care for older LGBT people as there is currently no specialist provision in the UK. We are very close to securing our first project in London but this is now on hold awaiting a decision on loan funding from the GLA. The funding request is for the salary of the CEO to cover the period when the project is on hold. The CEO is currently the sole member of staff employed and therefore undertaking all functions to keep the organisation operational and to stay in contact with our prospective residents and stakeholders. We have been awarded funding for three new posts to support the project, for which we are currently recruiting but we may have to put some of the appointments on hold pending the loan confirmation for the property acquisition. Our board has reviewed the current situation and is concerned that the 2 year grant funding for the CEO post is still required whilst things are on hold, which will mean that this post is then not funded for the required period to support the project. Our funders have previously advised that 2 years (commencing January 2020) is the maximum award for this role to support the project to become self-sustaining.
