Protecting and rehabilitating vulnerable ‘at risk’ young people in Togo (360G-CR-868330)
Hundreds of young people, many of them street children, are detained in Togo’s prisons. They are wrongfully detained, often for long periods, by a flawed justice system. All have difficult backgrounds, poor prospects, and are prone to violence by the police, prison staff and other detainees. Based on previous tried and tested work, this project will work with young detainees for a fair hearing and with officials to end the abuse of youths who are arrested. Released youth and those at risk of getting into trouble will be helped to reconnect with their families, be accepted into their communities, and earn a decent living, breaking the cycle of re-offending.
