Coronavirus Home Support Service (360G-CheshireCF-A548602)
Audlem & District Community Action and we have provided a Coronavirus Home Support Service since 14th March 2020. In the present emergency we are providing vulnerable people who are self isolating and who have no other local support with food, prescriptions, telephone support and other practical help. As of 31st March we are supporting 65 new people at home who have been referred alongside our existing 160 members and carers> These numbers growing daily. 55 additional volunteers have come forward to help us. Grant funding would be used to cover the cost of new volunteer mileage and mobile phone charges and to purchase additional ICT equipment to enable home working including a laptop and a blue tooth enable printer. Our project is now helping to keep over 200 vulnerable people safe and well in their own homes via the practical help being provided. We anticipate this number will increase to approaching 500 over the next 12 weeks. We are also working in close partnership with Audlem Medical Practice, Audlem Coop and Boots Chemists.

Recipient Org: Description | ADCA was established in 2011 as a charitable company by local people with the support of the local GP Practice, Parish Councils and churches and now provides a range of local services to socially isolated older people and carers who live in the 32 square miles of rural area around Audlem which has a total population of 7,000 people. 66.4% of residents in our area live in isolated rural communities and, in addition, Audlem GPs reports to us a higher incidence of patients with long term health conditions than national averages who benefit from the activities ADCA provides. ADCA's aims to combat loneliness and facilitate access to a range of integrated community activities. The outcomes we seek are to enable people to: • stay healthy and active • have improved mental wellbeing • have opportunities to socialise and make friends • actively contribute to the local community and feel a part of it During the pandemic we provide vulnerable people with food, prescriptions and telephone support and attendance at Covid secure lunch and coffee clubs. ADCA normally provides support to over 85 older people and vulnerable adults and 80 carers each month through our two day clubs, two coffee clubs, carers' breaks, befriending and medical transport services. We have three part time staff and 62 active volunteers, including trustees. Because of the pandemic, our main services were temporarily closed between March and August 2020 so we started providing our Coronavirus Home Support Service to all our existing members and carers plus an increasing number of new people who were having to self-isolate. This service provided support to over 300 people, nearly half of whom were new to ADCA services. This included 1,280 shopping and food deliveries, 279 prescription deliveries and 932 telephone support phones calls to members and carers. During this time we were fortunate to receive several emergency grants, including one of £5,000 from Cheshire Community Foundation, which helped fund these additional vital services. From the end of August until the second lockdown, we reopened two lunch clubs and two coffee clubs each week in Audlem and Hankelow within Covid Secure protocols with attendances restricted to between 6 and 10 people. These clubs provided much needed support, food and company for up to 40 people over each fortnight. We closed these clubs during the second lockdown but now plan to reopen these clubs from 8th December 2020 and to open two new ones from January 2021in Broomhall and Aston with Cheshire East Council funding under government guidelines. We now have a number of new members who are on the waiting list to attend our clubs including those with newly diagnosed dementia, people with anxiety and depression, newly bereaved people and carers who need a break from caring - many of whom now need weekly attendance to keep them going. |
