Just Drop-In Counselling Knutsford (360G-CheshireCF-A563182)

Just Drop-In has a proven track record in providing professional counselling services to local young people. Our current offer includes children from Knutsford and surrounding areas but they are required to travel to our Macclesfield base for face to face counselling and this presents significant barriers, particularly for children and young people who face disadvantage. Our proposal is to increase our provision and to bring the counselling service to them providing a free counselling service in the heart of their community from the Welcome Centre. The majority of the funding will be used to recruit and pay for qualified counsellors to deliver weekly counselling sessions for young people aged 12-25 on a Thursday evening. Funding would pay for 6 young people a week to access counselling provision. Counselling can have a significant and life changing impact on the lives of young people and we expect to see improved emotional health in over 80% of those who take part. Improved emotional health can provide a firm foundation for other areas of social improvement such as educational attainment and employability. Work will be delivered by phone and online in the early stages of the project, but will transition to face to face delivery from August onwards, based on the current business recovery model.

Recipient Org: Description Just Drop-In was established as a charity (1081416) in late 1999 but first opened its doors in 2000. Our Mission has remained unchanged and we seek to “Benefit the young people of Macclesfield and surrounding areas by establishing a centre which will provide: • A welcoming and comfortable environment hosted by volunteers from the community • A one stop centre providing assistance and information relating to their needs • Expert advice from the voluntary and statutory agencies represented/working in the centre • co-ordinated access to information, such as, education, employment, training, housing, health, benefits and leisure matters” Our work is governed by a committed Trustee Team, and delivered by a qualified and experienced paid staff group supported by an indispensable volunteer team of up to 60 people. Our six key aims include: • removing red tape and promoting quick and easy access to our services • ensuring our work is outcome focused, based on best evidence and built around need • providing a person centred, professional, transparent and accountable approach • promoting and valuing our localism, celebrating community involvement and volunteering • reducing stigma, promoting resilience and seeking to intervene early where ever possible • encouraging young people to have a voice and actively participate in the life of the charity We broadly work across two departments, counselling and well being services. Our current offer include: • A free counselling service open six days a week including two evenings from two locations • A drop-in information and support service open six days a week • A life-skills kitchen diner • Well-being groups - singing, running, walking. • We are an active partner within the multi-agency Cheshire East Emotionally Healthy Schools Project • Encouraging co-production, involvement and inclusion through our Young Advisory Board Our 3 year forward strategic plan contains the following 5 key priorities: 1. Outreach: We will extend service provision geographically within the former Borough of Macclesfield, where unmet need exists. We will do this in partnership with local organisations, utilising our experience alongside local community provision. 2. Partnerships: We will actively foster and develop partnerships for a successful future, seeking collaborative advantage to deliver quality services to young people. 3. The Drop-In: We will continue to develop a physical and front door so that young people can access any of our services without referral and with minimum waiting time, especially those in serious difficulty. 4. Digitisation: We will exploit new technology to creatively and effectively to attract young people to our services, provide support to young people and more efficiently run our operations. 5. Participation: We will develop further opportunities to involve young people in the governance and operation of JDI and in the appropriate provision of support for others.
