Acts Fast provides emotional support, practical resources and counselling for non-abusive family members of children who have disclosed sexual abuse. Our Therapeutic Manager will assist our CEO to provide essential support, resources and community connections for our clients (currently 83). This means Acts Fast will have greater capacity to help family members facing the devastation that happens when a child discloses sexual abuse.

Recipient Org: Description Acts Fast provides emotional support, practical resources and counselling services for non-abusive parents, carers and family members of children who have disclosed child sexual abuse (CSA). Acts Fast recognises that protective family members also need support and are often overlooked. Often family members of children who have disclosed sexual abuse are not processing their own emotions, take on unnecessary guilt and are overwhelmed by the situation. We want current and future generations to understand how trauma affects the brain, and to be well equipped with knowledge, support, and resources so they can navigate the negative effects of child sexual abuse and manage emotions in a healthy way. Our goals are: 1. To reach as many families as possible who have been affected by CSA. 2. To walk alongside families affected by CSA to manage the devastation. To provide a non-judgemental/safe environment so families can feel safe to work through all the different aspects of how the abuse has affected them. 3. To provide psychoeducation to help people understand how trauma affects the brain so clients can help other people in their family understand and have coping strategies. 4. To provide long-term support because we understand that this is a life-changing experience and long-term support is needed to help clients build resilience in themselves and their families. 5. To help clients recognise and change their patterns of relating. We provide emotional and practical support via phone, face-to-face sessions and via online platforms. After the initial session, Acts Fast clients are then offered ongoing support tailored to meet their individual needs. Depending on the requirements, situation and need of the client the following sessions are offered: • Trauma Education Trauma education helps clients understand the concept of trauma and gain a better understanding of the trauma they and their family members may be experiencing. • Trauma Informed Parenting Sessions Trauma Informed Parenting Sessions that help parents and carers of children and young people understand how a child’s negative behaviour may be a result of trauma and how they can respond with appropriate loving, kind and effective parenting techniques that encourage positive growth, development and recovery for the child and family affected by CSA. • Education on the Criminal Court Process Practical information and facts about the criminal court process. Information on how the court system works and what to expect when going through a court process. • Advocacy and Information Acts Fast has qualified Independent Sexual Violence Advisors (ISVA) and can offer families practical support throughout the criminal court process, from beginning to end, by attending court dates with families and providing advice. • Education on Domestic Abuse (Including Sexual Abuse) Education about safeguarding, managing suicidal ideations. For each client, a risk assessment on domestic abuse and provides referrals to domestic abuse and other relevant agencies where appropriate. • One-to-One Counselling is client led and offered for a period of 24 - 48 weeks and helps family members ensure they are in a more stable position to help their child.
