Workforce Wellbeing - COVID-19 Recovery Project (360G-CheshireCF-A601918)
East Cheshire Hospice provides expert palliative care in the community with their Hospice @Home service and in their In Patient Unit free of charge to those adults facing end-of-life in East Cheshire. The Workforce Wellbeing COVID-19 Recovery project will enable clinical staff to continue to care for those impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic struggling with isolation and loneliness. The grant will fund a 12 month COVID-19 impact recovery counselling and training programme to build resilience in the clinical team. During and post the pandemic the Hospice has lost nearly 2000 clinical working hours directly attributed to the impact of COVID-19, the majority within the Hospice @Home clinical team. The community nursing team has been a lifeline for those who have been isolated due to Government rules and felt at their most vulnerable facing life limiting illness. East Cheshire Hospice aim always to put the patient at the centre of everything they do.

Recipient Org: Description | East Cheshire Hospice was founded 1988, over 30 years ago to provide specialist Palliative care in the last weeks of life to the community of East Cheshire. It was initially funded by a small group of local people, who were determined that our area should have a hospice like other parts of the country. Today, our patients come from a referral area that covers 400 sq miles with a population of c.240,000, and includes the towns of Buxton, Congleton, High Legh, High Peak, Knutsford, Macclesfield, Poynton, Wilmslow and the 72 hamlets and villages in between. We provide free specialist palliative care to adults living with life-limiting illnesses. As well as the high quality, compassionate care provided at our 15 bedded inpatient unit, we offer daycare and outpatient appointments in our busy Sunflower Centre. The Sunflower Centre hosts our Living Well programme which supports those living with life-limiting illnesses to get the most from life, as well as providing outpatient appointments offering physiotherapy, lymphoedema and breathlessness clinics, art psychotherapy, symptom control services, complementary therapies and our specialist dementia support work. We also offer family support services, which include a 24-hour helpline, a carers break programme, information and advice, complementary therapies, counselling for adults and a specialist childhood bereavement support service. Our Hospice has always listened and responded to the needs of our community and we were aware that many individuals would prefer to choose to be at home surrounded by their loved ones at End of Life. We launched our Hospice @Home service in Oct 2017, the new service has had a remarkable impact on the Palliative care in East Cheshire and more than doubled the number in our care Over 75% of our patients suffer from cancer and we provide care to people living with motor neurone disease, multiple sclerosis and advanced heart and lung disease. Many people find it surprising to learn that over 30% of our Inpatients return home after admission and that many patients access our care for a number of years. We are not just here to provide care at end of life. The Hospice is a haven of calm where everyone matters and where our staff are on hand 24 hours a day 365 days a year to ensure that our patients receive the care they need. Our integrated workforce is made up of over 100 staff and more than 600 committed volunteers. In 2019/20 our volunteers donated many hours of time, saving us in the region of £1.5 million in costs. We pride ourselves in delivering exceptional personalised care and putting our patients and their families at the centre of everything we do. |
