The grant funding will provide parcels of culturally appropriate food, with an emphasis on fresh fruit and vegetables. Supporting this project will provide essential fresh food to residents living in some of the most difficult circumstances imaginable due to the devastating impact COVID has had on the local community in Southall.

Recipient Org: Description The Young Ealing Foundation (1171554) was created by John Lyon's Charity to support the children’s and young people’s sector in Ealing. We focus on helping small and micro charities working at ground level in the area. Our main goal is a strong and cohesive sector which works together and provides the best possible opportunities for young people. Support can include, but is not limited to: · Supporting strong infrastructure. · Capacity Building. · Policy development and strategy writing. · Partnerships, collaborative working and shared learning. The Young Ealing Foundation runs four local networks, Out of Schools Settings, Arts and Health Alliance, Ealing Inclusive Sport and Physical Activity Network, and the Tackling Youth Violence Forum. All of our networks bring frontline groups together to explore needs in the borough and to see where we can best support them. In response to the current pandemic, we have also started a food project in Southall. The project provides parcels of fresh food to over 300 families a week who are now struggling because of the impact COVID-19 has had on employment in the area. In the summer, we successfully bid for £50,000 from the DEFRA food scheme, which helped to support not only our own food project but eight others in the local area. Together, we were able to distribute 32,618 kg of food (equivalent to five African Bush Elephants) to families in Ealing and the surrounding boroughs. In July 2020, we commissioned and undertook a research project to look at the impact of the virus on voluntary groups in Ealing. From our findings, we are now working with the community and local authority to formulate a recovery action plan. Working collaboratively will give the youth sector the best chance of recovering from this virus.
