Recipient Org: Description The Lighthouse Centre (TLC) is a local registered charity and currently runs activities and services directly benefitting approximately 170 people in need every week. The vision of TLC is for an all year round community hub used to facilitate our core activities, including supporting the homeless, unemployed, BAME communities, those living on the edge of society, ex-offenders with complex, chaotic lives and those suffering severe mental health disorders. ?TLC functions as: - A hub for individuals to access, free of charge, a service to first and foremost provide for their physiological and safety needs, then support them to achieve a higher level fulfilment along the process towards self-actualisation. - A hub where they can meet and socialise with other people, thereby encouraging a sense of belonging and pride in our community. - A hub which enables good relations with cultures and ethnicities, enabling community inclusion and cohesion. - A hub which encourages a feeling that everyone has a voice which is valued and deservces to be listened to and acted upon. - A hub which promotes confidence and empowers individuals to enjoy a sense of belonging, acceptance and encouragement to feel part of the community Our objective at TLC is to provide a 21st Century social function facility at the heart of Crewe’s community, providing a sustainable, secure, culturally diverse and accessible space that is valued and supported by the people of Crewe and the surrounding area. In order to achieve this our main areas of focus is: - To enhance, maintain and keep our facilities available, accessible and safe for the use of local people and visitors to the area. - To encourage, enable and facilitate inclusive activities which tackle and address the education, employment, training, welfare, and health, social, cultural and recreational needs of the local community. - To provide quality services to meet the needs of the wider area. - To continue to consult and engage with the local community so that we are current with local issues and support the local community through relevant provision - To continually identify and raise funds from a range of sources which will enable us to further develop the resources available to users of TLC and to be financially sustainable. ? At TLC, we create new opportunities for vulnerable people, offering a range of services to improve their quality of life. We support the homeless, BAME communities, lonely, socially isolated, the unemployed, ex-offenders, NEETs and those with physical and mental health problems. We address health, economic, social and housing inequalities across our catchment area to support individuals facing these problems. TLC staff, volunteers and supporters already provide a range of activities and services that offer hope to our community. These activities and services include: - Free weekly lunch and evening meals - Night shelter and emergency accommodation service to the homeless - External shower block and laundry facilities for use all year-round - Clothes bank where service users can obtain free clothes, clean and in good repair - Food bank services - Emotional support; advice; sign-posting and referral services - Partnering with other services to provide support support for those suffering with addictions and mental health disorders etc. - Translation/interpreter support and - English as a second language tuition Our beneficiaries are mainly local homeless, BAME communities including our BAME Women’s group and individuals with mental health problems. TLC also offers other community activities including: - Children & Youth Club - Outreach support services to help engage young people, especially the hard to reach NEET categorgy, with our youth programmes, such as the cooking club. - Work Experience placements to students - Social interaction opportunities and a safe place for vulnerable BME communities, including Asylum seekers, refugees and Eastern European migrants - Community Policer Base for neighbourhood drop in surgeries with our Local PCSO - Advice and training on debt, housing and benefits. - Computer / digital inclusion support - Free weekly Sunday dinner - Weekly family Worship Services TLC is passionate and committed to meeting the ‘unmet needs’ of the marginalised and outcast within Crewe, from its premise siutuated in an area classifed within the top 10% of areas with most deprivatiion in England!
