Recipient Org: Description Magic Breakfast works to prevent hunger as a barrier to education by providing healthy and nutritious breakfasts in schools to children who would otherwise go without. With 1.8 million children at risk of hunger every single morning, never has our work been so important. Hunger has a significant impact on a child?s ability to access their learning and reach their potential. 80% of teachers report that a hungry child is more likely to be restless, unhappy, lethargic, distracted or disruptive in lessons. By their GCSE year, there is a 28% gap between children receiving free school meals and their wealthier classmates in terms of the number achieving at least 5 A*-C GCSE grades.A recent report, funded by the Education Endowment Foundation, and carried out by the Institute for Fiscal Studies, found children who attended schools with Magic Breakfast clubs made an average of two months? additional academic progress over the course of a year.Every morning Magic Breakfast provides a nutritious breakfast to 31,500 children across 480 schools. Our stigma-free breakfast clubs ensure that every child is nourished, settled and ready to learn at the start of the school day, improving educational outcomes for the most disadvantaged children and the whole school community. As a teacher at one of our partner schools commented: ?Magic Breakfast provides a fantastic service especially as so many families are struggling with financial pressures. We are able to ensure that none of our children have to start the day hungry which means that they are ready to learn and concentrate."No child should be too hungry to learn, Magic Breakfast aims to eradicate school child hunger for good, by creating wider public awareness, reaching more schools and campaigning for governmental change.
