Recipient Org: Description | Include Us was created as a SCIO in February 2018 to develop Catherine Street Inclusive Play Park and Community Garden. We are a small group of volunteer parents with disabled children and local people who want to redevelop an existing small play park into an inclusive play park in Dumfries town centre. The impetus for doing this came after the local authority opened a flag-ship play park (Dock Park) in 2014 after a spend of £2000,000. Families with disabled children realised that there were no play facilities suitable for their child. So, parents got together to consider what could be done. In early 2016 we developed a Working Group of parents and local people, professionals from the statutory and voluntary sectors. Catherine Street Play Park was identified by a number of parents as the preferred park to develop in the town centre. It is a small enclosed woodland pocket park (with 35 trees) close to the main library, children’s nurseries and schools. Next door is The Usual Place community café which is very accessible and has a Changing Places Toilet. We will open the park up to the café so that families can use the toilet. |
