National Ankylosing Spondylitis Society is the only charity dedicated to those with axial Spa (AS) in the UK. 1 in 200 of the adult population in the UK have axial Spa (AS), That’s twice as many as multiple sclerosis and Parkinson’s disease. Arthritis is too often associated solely with older people and the wear and tear that comes with ageing. Axial Spa (AS) however tends to present in late teens to early twenties with an average age of onset of 24. 95% of people are aged 45 years when their symptoms start – a time of when most people are at an important stage of their lives, looking to forge relationships, start families and build a career. |
