Recipient Org: Description | Oak Tree Animals' Charity strives to help to create a world in which animals are given the right level of care, protection, treatment and security. We have been rehabilitating and rehoming animals and educating the public in animal welfare since 1909. 111 years later, we continue to provide a safe place for all animals in their time of need. In recent years we have widened our focus to help vulnerable and disadvantaged pet owners as well as their animals. Companion animals can be a person’s sole reason to get up in the morning and a purpose in life for those with chronic depression and other debilitating mental health conditions. Our Community Team helps those who are fleeing domestic abuse, experiencing housing tenancy issues, or who become homeless (among many other issues) to care for their animals. We also work with local foodbanks and statutory organisations to ensure that animals don't fall through the net and suffer due to the misfortunes of their owners. We work across Cumbria stretching into Yorkshire and Southern Scotland. We are particularly proud that, to date, we have delivered over 900 food parcels to local foodbanks in Carlisle during the coronavirus pandemic. |
