Recipient Org: Description | Carlisle Mencap is an independent membership organisation and registered charity serving north Cumbria. We have over 200 members and provide life-long person centered support for people with learning disabilities and Autism and their families. We are governed by an executive committee of twelve directors, four of whom are from the learning disability community including our Vice Chair. Established in 1968, we have been providing a range of services and projects for people of all ages, for over fifty years, currently engaging with over four hundred regular service users. Services include: Residential respite for both children and adults Supported living in four houses Community outreach and support Leisure opportunities and holidays Befriending Support to living independently at home. We have 140 staff and 20 volunteers and people are at the heart of all we do. All of our services are holistic, person centered and empower and enable individuals to live fulfilled and happy lives. We fully appreciate and understand the emotional needs of people with learning disabilities, the importance of self esteem and their need to feel a valued part of society. Our work enables people with disabilities to have the same experiences as their non-disabled peers |
