Recipient Org: Description | The Kepplewray Trust operates The Kepplewray Centre for outdoor activities in the southern Lake District National Park. We have a huge focus on inclusion for all, particularly for young people living with the effects of disability or disadvantage, or other barriers holding them back from mainstream outdoor activities. Groups come mainly from schools, disability and carer groups, youth partnerships, churches, cadets, scouts and many other community and charitable settings. Our range of outdoor activities includes climbing, abseiling, bush craft, wild-camping, archery, kayaking, raft building and many more. These stimulate personal challenge and sense of achievement, skills building, confidence-boosting and joy for over 2,000 young people each year. We get tremendous feedback from participants and thrive leaders on the difference being able to come to the Kepplewray centre makes. Since the start of COVID we have raised over £34,000 towards a new Participation Inclusion Fund. This is almost all now committed to providing subsidies of over 50% to dozens of groups and hundreds of young people from disadvantaged, low income, disabled and minority ethnic settings, to get them into the outdoors for vital activities. We get great feedback on the difference this makes and are fund-raising to help hundreds more. |
