Recipient Org: Description Our objectives: • Preventing or relieving the poverty of older people. • Advancing education. • Preventing or relieving sickness, disease or suffering in older people. • Promoting equality & diversity. • Assisting older people in need by reason of ill-health, disability, financial hardship, social exclusion or another disadvantage. • Promotion of the wellbeing of older people. To achieve these objectives, we offer services and support for people aged 50 and over, along with their families & carers, resident in the area covered by Barrow-in-Furness Borough Council. We currently provide the following activities and services: • Information & Advice – a free service for people aged 65 and over covering issues such as benefits, fuel poverty, energy checks and practical help. • Telephone Befriending – someone to talk to, to prevent loneliness, help people feel valued, and provide peace of mind to older people & their families. • Social activities – social and activity groups in community venues. The groups are aimed at older people experiencing social isolation. • Later Lives Connected – supporting digital inclusion for older people. • Handyperson – an affordable service for everyday repairs and maintenance, including fitting key safes, grab rails and gardening. • Nail Cutting.
