African RAS Women Adult Learning Outreach Project (360G-GLA-GROUP-_0223-2023-10-25)

£22,200

We are requesting a grant of £22,200 to work with French-speaking Black African asylum seeker/refugee women in south London. Because of their cultural backgrounds and life experiences these women often lack basic English and/or numeracy skills and vocational skills. OBJECTIVE. Through outreach and promotion we will engage community members and refer them to adult learning providers (e.g., CALAT, LCC) to acquire regulated/non-regulated qualifications. This will increase their chances of getting work, leading to improved incomes and living standards for them and their families. DELIVERABLES. We will run 8x monthly workshops on topics relevant to the community at which we will promote adult education as a way to further develop their skills. Participants will be invited to 1-1 IAG/DNA sessions to explore needs/options in detail, and then referred to an appropriate training provider. We estimate 240 people will attend, 120 receive 1-1s, 60 be referred, including 30 for numeracy training.
