Recipient Org: Description Activities: Weoley Hill CC is a long established club, based in the Selly Oak area of the City, that has provided a sporting outlet for many young people over a number of years. The Junior section has been very proactive and now links in with several local schools to offer coaching and matches to a wide range of ages from Under 9’s to Under 16’s both for boys and girls. Two nights a week and Sunday mornings are dedicated to Junior cricket coaching and match playing and on average there will be 100 young people attending these sessions. The club runs 8 age group teams. The artificial pitch is essential for coaching and match play. All the coaching staff are correctly trained and qualified to manage these sessions. Aims: It is essential from a sporting angle that this initiative is maintained to a good a safe level and to offer an outlet for young people to partake in an organised activity that encourages self discipline, learn to be team players and to undertake regular exercise that will hopefully minimise health problems. Besides attempting to encourage young people to stay fit and enjoy a sporting activity, the Club hopes that individuals will progress in the sport to represent District or County Age group teams and then progress into the senior teams to become future full time members of the Club. Good basic facilities are essential for correct coaching to be undertaken and the club has consistently upgraded all playing areas to play the sport in a safe environment. This aim will be ongoing from season to season and renewals and maintenance are consistent themes that the main committee has to budget for.
