Recipient Org: Description | BIRCH aims to relieve the destitution and isolation of vulnerable asylum seekers by harnessing the hospitality of the local community, leading to increased wellbeing for our service users and greater community cohesion. We meet this aim through three projects: 1. Hosting Network- supports a team of 18 volunteer host families to offer a spare bedroom in their homes to individuals experiencing destitution in their journey through the asylum process. 2. The Family Befriending Project- matches young refugees aged 16-25 who have come to the UK alone with trained volunteer families for befriending support. Young people report an increase in their emotional resilience due to having a trusted adult to support them, having improved their English language skills and extended their support networks. 3. Meet and Greet- a weekly lunch, resource bank and play session for asylum seeking families supported by a large team of volunteers. |
