Recipient Org: Description | Open Arms functions as social enterprise designed to provide support to marginalised and excluded groups in the Hall Green area of Birmingham. We currently run two main projects, alongside a number of ad hoc sessions and events. These are: - An elderly befriending programme (working with around 12 different isolated elderly people, who are supported by a team of 9 regular volunteers) - Weekly Youth project – for young people aged 12-21 who are victims of mental, physical, or sexual abuse. These young people generally live in full-time care, with foster parents or in supported accommodation. They get referred to the sessions from Birmingham City Council and Housing Associations, such as Midlands Heart. Our overall aim is to promote positive lives, health and wellbeing among the most vulnerable people in our community - especially young people who have suffered abuse but also older people who suffer from isolation - and to ensure the community functions as a happy, healthy place for everyone who lives hear. |
