Starting life as a soup kitchen in Bedford in 1974, Amicus Trust now offers over 50 houses providing accommodation and support to homeless adults. This project is focused on supporting homeless adults in Northamptonshire with mental health and basic skills needs into their own accommodation in a long term and sustainable way. Our funding request is for a Mental Health Worker and Basic Skills Development Worker to deliver outreach support to develop essential skills in IT, Literacy and numeracy and living independently such as ‘maintaining a tenancy’ – importantly it also focuses on the underpinning impact of mental health issues, to ensure service users are able manage their mental and live independently, avoiding the threat of homelessness in the future.

Our service user is at the centre of their support with a personal development plan aimed at enabling them to overcome personal barriers and developing the skills needed to run their own home and sustain an independent life as part of the community. Amicus Trust operates 50 houses providing accommodation and support to homeless adults in Bedfordshire, Northamptonshire, Leicestershire, Buckinghamshire and Huntingdon. In 2017, Amicus supported 495 homeless adults.
