Recipient Org: Description | For 35 years, Trinity Community Project (TCP) has offered a unique service for adults (18+), living in St Albans and district who have learning difficulties (LD) or mental health (MH) issues. Our purpose is to work with these highly disadvantaged people, encouraging them to take part in various activities both within our service and the community. We offer people choices, promoting their skills and ability to live more independently, while maintaining their dignity and safety. We welcome everyone, irrespective of gender, ethnicity, religious belief or any other factor. Our charity has six trustees, two staff and 12 volunteers. We are based in a community venue in St Albans. Complementing our day service, we offer many skills-based, rehabilitative and recreational courses and activities, excursions, social events and individual support for 90 of our 'members' (service users). Following the 'Connected Lives' principles, we work with our members to help them : ● learn new skills (eg cookery) ● monitor their health and become more active. For example, we run walking groups to encourage people to exercise. ● take part in community-based activities ● progress to more independent living and social inclusion ● set up their own self-help groups (important for people with MH issues). We strongly encourage members of all ages to choose what is best for them from our wide range of activities. About 50% of our members are older people aged 60+, who mostly attend our day service. This group is often marginalised, since the focus of statutory provision has increasingly switched to younger people with LD or those with urgent support needs. Many of our older members live with relatives, or in sheltered accommodation. Without us, they would be very isolated or institutionalised. |
