Recipient Org: Description The Heather Club (THC) offers a low cost, high quality day service for older people in Dacorum living with memory loss. We aim to enable our club members to participate in activities that enhance their mental and physical wellbeing and reduce their social isolation and loneliness within a caring environment where they are treated with dignity and respect. This consequently offers respite to the families and unpaid carers of the club members who use our service. We meet twice a week from 10am – 3pm and provide transport to over 75% of our members, which enables people to participate in our service who would otherwise be unable to reach us. We provide a meal, drinks and two tea /coffee breaks to our members offering support (where necessary) to eat during the mealtime. Our caring team take time to get to know each of the club’s members and their interests in order to provide activities to help stimulate their memories in an enjoyable way. Some activities that members have the opportunity to engage in include painting, craft, board games, jigsaws, newspapers and reading books, chair exercises and opportunities to reminisce depending on their interest. We are proud of our one-to-one work with members documenting their Life Stories and are keen to extend this opportunity to all of our members. After lunch we provide a range of activities such memory exercises, quizzes, poetry readings or singing until an outside entertainer or group arrives. Most of our regular entertainment is musical and members can choose to join in the singing and dancing with the support of the volunteers. When we do not have outside entertainers, we play group games such as a variation of bingo, or play your cards right, or sing. During good weather we have outings to local places of interest.
