Recipient Org: Description | WWCA's vision is "A cohesive community where everyone feels included not isolated: an area where we can be proud to live." We are a charity a the heart of West Watford and our mission is to proactively provide affordable services and support in response to dynamic community needs. Via our centre for learning, support and social interaction we want to create a community where everyone is proud of our area and feels included, valued, listened to and connected to others. We do this by listening to ideas and comments from the local community; providing services (classes, activities, one-off events) including those suggested by the local community. We encourage community spirit and equal opportunity and provide opportunities for people to meet their neighbours and form friendships so that people look out for each other and we have a more cohesive community. We value all our users individually, and do our best to meet their needs. We offer and value volunteering opportunities and volunteers form a big part of our Centre. Many of our groups are run by volunteers. Last year volunteers gave 1,433 hours of their time to us. This includes regular volunteering running an activity as well as occasional help ie delivering our newsletters or baking cakes for the Community Coffee Morning. Among our social interaction regular events are Community Coffee Morning, Baby& Toddler Group with Sensory Infants and Toddlers sessions and Healthy Toddlers sessions, Afternoon Tea with Friends, Watford Area Memories Group, West Watford Sing Along, Vinyl Evenings. We encourage our residents to get active by offering affordable exercise classes such as Yoga, Over 50s exercise and Women only Pilates class. Learning opportunities consist of French Conversation class, Guitar Group, Digital Inclusion for Older People, Allotment learning for Families, Art Group and of course our craft groups: Crochet, Knit & Natter and Crafty Sew and Sews. We also run ad hoc one off events, among which were The Great Get Together Community Picnic with Live Music, Keeping Fit and Local History Walks, Quiz Evening, Festive Get Together, International Bring a Dish Evening, Macrame Class, Upcycling Workshops, Board Games Afternoon, International Women's Day, Vegan Baking Demonstrations etc. Some of our events and activities are free and some our charged at affordable rates. We try to raise funds for the Centre by holding various fundraisers (Handmade in West Watford Craft Sale and Vintage Tearoom, Quiz Evening) and by offering our Centre for hire to residents and other community groups. |
