Recipient Org: Description Age UK Dacorum (AUKD) is a local independent charity (not funded by Age UK National); formed in 1984 becoming a registered charity in 1993. We are based in the Borough of Dacorum in Hertfordshire. The geographical area we cover is Hemel Hempstead, Kings Langley, Tring, Berkhamsted and the surrounding villages. On average we support directly over 1,500 people per week with over 36,000 people being supported indirectly or contacting us for information and advice and support. Although our prime target group is older people (65+) and their carers we work with younger age groups as part of our early intervention and prevention strategy which includes intergenerational activities bringing older and younger people together. We are committed to supporting local residents to overcome disadvantage and achieve positive futures. We often work with some of the most vulnerable people in the community. Our services are all built on strong, effective relationships with individuals, communities, and partners, which we use to improve health and wellbeing in neighbourhoods across the borough of Dacorum. Our support helps to reduce the reliance on or need for professional help, reducing the demands on statutory services. It also enhances people’s lives enabling them to continue to remain living at home and contribute to their local communities through a journey of change towards positive outcomes. To maximise our impact, we deliver a wide range of services within the community in our clients’ homes and at many venues throughout the borough. Our services include – Handyperson, Active Living Clubs, Dementia Clubs and Home Visiting, Befriending (Home Visits and Telephone), Walking Football, Good Neighbours – Boxmoor and Berkhamsted, Tea and Chat Clubs, Friendship Teas, Loneliness Initiative (Berkhamsted), Personal Assistants, Information and Advice. We also are partners in the Hospital and Community Navigator Service.
